How to keep artificial turf looking good.

Synthetic grass does not grow, but it is still an outdoor surface exposed to leaves, pollen, pet waste, traffic and weather. A simple maintenance routine helps protect its appearance and performance.

The short answer

Remove loose debris regularly, address pet waste promptly, rinse according to use and product guidance, groom flattened traffic zones when appropriate, and inspect edges and seams. Use cleaning products compatible with the turf and its infill.

01Weekly or as-needed upkeep

Pick up litter, leaves and small debris before they break down on the surface. In a pet area, remove solid waste and rinse when needed. Follow the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations and avoid harsh products that may damage turf, adhesives or the installation below.

02Traffic, matting and infill

Frequently walked zones may flatten over time. Brushing with suitable tools can help lift fibers, while infill may need inspection or redistribution. Different turf products call for different grooming methods. Do not use metal rakes or high heat without the installer's guidance.

03Watch seams, edges and drainage

Check for lifting at borders, separation at seams, unusual sinking or places where water lingers. Catching an edge issue early can prevent greater damage. If a location stays wet despite cleaning, the underlying base or water route may need evaluation.

04Seasonal care in the Southeast

Pollen and tree litter may increase in spring, while storm debris needs attention through summer and fall. Heavy use around holidays and entertaining can justify extra brushing. A pet run with multiple dogs will require more frequent cleaning than a decorative lawn.

Questions worth asking before you start

  • Remove debris before it accumulates
  • Clean pet waste promptly
  • Brush only with product-compatible tools
  • Inspect seams, infill, borders and water movement

Common questions

Answers before your estimate.

Can I pressure wash artificial turf?

Pressure, distance and cleaning chemicals can damage some installations. Follow product and installer guidance rather than assuming a pressure washer is safe.

How do I fix a separating seam?

A seam may need cleaning, repair adhesive or replacement materials; the cause should be checked first. Kingdom Turf evaluates seams, edges and infill as part of repair work.
